June 14, 2011: Attenza Law owner Karen Lundquist launches a new initiative, Global Legal Institute, an online school for foreign legal professionals who need and want to learn legal English for their job. The GLI offers online courses of legal English, including global discussion forums, 75-minute discussions held in a virtual classroom where lawyers around the world can discuss legal issues.

May 10, 2011: Attenza Law owner Karen Lundquist will be in Bologna, Italy where she will take part in a round table discussion on the US business climate and trade relations between the US and Italy, one of our strongest allies and trade partners. The round table is hosted and organized by LexMeeting, an Italian company owned by attorney Antonio Zama that specializes in seminars and conferences.

May 3, 2011: HR Techies and Attenza Law offer their final workshop in the series Turbans, Tattoos and Twitter: Legal Issues in Today’s Modern Workplace. In this workshop, we examine the legal and HR issues surrounding discipline, performance evaluations and terminations. We will discuss how companies can reduce their legal liability in these delicate moments of an employment relationship.

April 5, 2011: HR Techies and Attenza Law continue their series of lunchtime legal workshops, this time focusing on the privacy in the workplace, employee monitoring and technology.

March 2, 1011: HR Techies and Attenza Law hosted a Lunch & Learn about the legal and HR issues surrounding  diversity in the workplace. Companies that embrace diversity and strive to employ a diverse workforce are better equipped to thrive in today’s diverse and global marketplace.

February 1, 2011: Turbans, Tattoos and Twitter lives on! We are continuing our successful series of lunchtime employment law workshops in 2011 and our February lunch & learn focuses on hiring employees and the legal and HR issues that you should consider when you decide to do so. January 11, 2011: We are starting 2011 with a new series of lunchtime workshops. This time, we are pairing up with HRTechies, to provide interactive and interesting presentations on employment-law issues. On January 11, 2011, our first lunchtime workshop (FREE!) will cover religion in the workplace. In today’s increasingly diverse workplace, this is an issue that more and more employers are facing. Check out our website for information about the remaining workshops and to sign up.

November 17, 2010: Attenza Law hosted in third workshop in the three-part lunchtime legal workshop series. This presentation focused on employee privacy in the workplace and what employers can do to monitor their employees without violating privacy or other laws. The workshops were all well-attended and got rave reviews, especially the homemade chocolate cupcakes!

October 27, 2010: Attenza Law hosted its second workshop in the three-part lunchtime workshop series today. This workshop focused on religious accommodations in the workplace and examined what an employer must do to accommodate an employee’s religious practices or beliefs.

September 28, 2010: Attenza Law is beginning its three-part legal lunchtime workshops. Entitled “Turbans, Tattoos and Tweets: Legal Issues in Today’s Modern Workplace,” the free workshops will look at issues that today’s employees are facing today due to technology, the convergence and blurring of private and public and changes in contemporary US society. July 1, 2010: We are starting a new chapter in our firm’s history. Kimberly Lange, one of the founding partners of the firm, will be leaving to start her own firm, Lange Legal Office. We wish her well on her new endeavor! We are renaming the firm Attenza Law to reflect our love of Italy and all things Italian. Come back soon to our site to see the new design and logo…it is on the way!

June 25, 2010: Attenza Law obtains WBENC certification. WBENC (Women Business Enterprise National Council) is the largest third-party certifier of women-owned businesses in the United States.

June 3, 2010: Karen spoke at the HR Professionals Roundtable on June 3, 2010 at the Burnsville City Hall. Her presentation will cover social media in the workplace. Can an employer fire an employee for a Facebook posting? And if it does, what are the potential legal consequences. Privacy issues at work will also be discussed, such as dress code.

May 13, 2010: Karen was a guest on The Peter McClellan show on AM1570, Twin Cities Business Radio. She talked about employment issues that business owners should have as they hire their first employee or work with already established employess. She got to meet Angus, Peter’s Scottish side-kick and throughly enjoyed the chance to talk to Minnesota business owners about some of the problems that they face.

April 5, 2010: As a women-owned business and women-owned law firm, Attenza Law is now pursuing WBE (Women Business Enterprise) certification. Lundquist & Lange works with other women business owners to help them protect their interests and minimize their legal risks.

April 1, 2010: Karen Lundquist gave a presentation at the Minnesota Human Resource Professionals monthly group meeting, held at the Burnsville Civic Center. The presentation was on the legal ramifications of depression in the workplace, including constructive notice under the FMLA and reasonable accommodations under the ADA. Mark Meier of Equalicare presented with Karen about the clinical aspects of depression.

March 23, 2010: Karen Lundquist and her recent work anaylyzing online legal documents and the quality of them were mentioned in an article on MinnPost.com. Karen and a colleague, Greg Luce of the Minnesota Bar Assocation, agreed to purchase documents through popular online legal sites (legalzoom and lawdepot.com) and judge the quality of them. Caveat emptor!

January 20, 2010:Karen Lundquist gave a presentation on the legal implications of depression in the workplace at the Seward Civic and Commerce Association’s monthly meeting. Here is the association’s website with a posting about the presentation.

November 29, 2009: Karen Lundquist was a guest on Matt McNeil’s radio show on KSTP 1500AM. Matt hosts a weekend talk radio show during which he talks about sports, enternainment and other issues that pique his interest. He also invites guests on the show. When Karen was on, she discussed employment law issues such as independent contractors, wages and overtimes.

October 7, 2009: Along with approximately 150 other businesses, Attenza Law participated in the New Business Expo, sponsored by New Business Minnesota on October 7, 2009. The Expo was held at the Ramada Inn at the Mall of America and included exhibitors from all industries, such as marketing and graphic design, accounting and payroll and of course legal services.
